The Spiritual Nature of Life

Scripture Reading

Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Introduction

Dear brothers and sisters, life is far deeper and more profound than what we can see, touch, or measure. Scripture reminds us that reality is not limited to the physical realm. There is a spiritual dimension at work—one that influences hearts, decisions, cultures, and destinies. When we understand this truth, we learn how to live wisely, walk humbly with God, and stand firmly in faith.

1. Awareness of Spiritual Forces

The Bible makes it clear that unseen spiritual forces are real and active. Ignoring them does not make them disappear—but understanding them through God’s Word equips us to respond correctly.

a) The Influence of the Unseen

Spiritual forces—both godly and ungodly—operate beyond our natural senses. Though invisible, their effects can be seen in attitudes, patterns, conflicts, and breakthroughs. Discernment allows us to recognize when something is more than just physical or emotional.

b) The Reality of Evil

Scripture acknowledges the presence of evil in the world. Darkness seeks to oppose God’s purposes, bring confusion, and steal peace. Awareness is not meant to create fear, but wisdom. When we know the truth, we know where to run—for refuge, strength, and victory.

c) Spiritual Influence in Everyday Life

Spiritual opposition can attempt to manifest through environments, thoughts, habits, or strained relationships. However, the believer is never helpless. God has given us authority in Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to guard our hearts and minds.

2. Our Response as Believers

God never reveals a problem without also providing a solution. While spiritual battles are real, so is God’s power.

a) We Stand, Not Strive

Ephesians 6 does not call us to fight in our own strength, but to stand in God’s strength. The battle belongs to the Lord.

b) Put On the Whole Armor of God

Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer are not symbolic ideas—they are spiritual weapons. When we are clothed in God’s armor, we are protected and prepared.

c) Stay Rooted in Christ

The closer we walk with Jesus, the clearer our discernment becomes. Light always overcomes darkness. Where Christ reigns, darkness
